Who is Justin Bieber?

“Who is Justin Bieber?”…perhaps a silly question for most of our readers, but we do get a significant number of visits from people who are trying to find out who he is.

The short answer: Justin Bieber is a young pop music superstar, born  March 1, 1994,  in London, Ontario Canada.  He’s extremely popular, especially with pre-teen girls, has won over 24 music awards, and been nominated for many more.   He’s already had two albums hit #1, has starred in a movie that has grossed over $97 million dollars, and is also noted for writing many of his own songs including his hit single “Baby”.

Early Career Success

Justin Drew Bieber is a pop singer, songwriter and sometimes actor. Justin Bieber was discovered by producer Scooter Braun in 2008, as a result of viewing many of Justin’s YouTube video.  Braun wasted little time signing on a Bieber’s manager, then coordinated a meeting with big-time performer and producter Usher.  This meeting then led Beiber to sign on with Raymond Braun Media Group, a agency run by both Scoot Braun and Usher.   This was quickly followed by an official recording contract between Justin and Island Records.

Childhood

Bieber was born in London, Canada, in the province of Ontario on March 1st, 1994.  He grew up in nearby Stratford, Ontario, a small town of about 30,000 residents and somewhat famous for it’s yearly Shakespeare Festival.  Patricia Lynn Mallette, Justin’s mother, was just eighteen when she gave birth to Justin, her first child.  Better known as Patty to her friends, she was a single mother, and worked hard in a variety of low-paying jobs to make a living for the family.  Patty was a big part of Justin’s success, as she was the one that posted the YouTube videos that led to his discovery.  She’s said publicly that she posted the videos because she felt guilty for not being able to attend his local performances because of her work schedule.

Bieber on Guitar, Playing Hockey and Soccer

Bieber had interests other than music, including soccer, chess, as well as the most popular Canadian sport: hockey.  His main talent, of course, was music.   Aside from singing, Bieber is self-taught on several instruments, and surprisingly good on drums, piano, and guitar.
